Back to School!

Today it was back to school for Graham. After having Spring Break last week, it was nice to get back into our Thursday routine and let Graham loose in the classroom. Each week though, he's less and less willing to do the "suggested" activity (ex. eating at the table, singing in a circle..) and would rather choose his own activities. At this age, there really are no rules about "paying attention" but I'm always amazed at how Graham knows exactly what he wants, and most often, it's not what the rest of the class is doing. My boy has some very strong opinions! At snack time today, Graham refused to sit down and eat. He kept trying to get up and go back to the sensory table so I finally gave in and let him stand up to eat his food. Most of the kids will sit in their little chairs for at least 10 minutes which allows their Mom's to have some talking time. Not my boy-he eats for 30 seconds and is again on the move! As you can see below, Graham chose to happily push around a blue chair while the others finished off their snacks.

The sensory table is Graham's very favorite thing in the classroom and today, it was filled with his very favorite sensory table "stuff"-oatmeal! Judging by the amount of raw oatmeal Graham was trying to cram into that little mouth of his, one would think that he never gets fed! In his defense though, nearly every child was also trying to eat the oatmeal. Hmmmm, what a great snack!
